Vmax Clutch Grinder Operation

Pull main shaft to the right to open space to mount clutch.

Slide clutch on shaft.

After you slide the clutch on the shaft, put nut on shaft.

Thread nut down until tight.

Nut is tight on shaft.

Rotation to turn main shaft.

To grind the activator plate, put activator plate on spring plate just as you would normally put it together. I bolt the two plates together with a #10-32 x 1/2" socket pan head screw. It will take a #10 and a 1/4" flat washer to bolt tight and hold it in place.

Another view of the plates bolted together.

Once the plates are bolted together, slide the activator plate assembly BACKWARDS onto the hub assembly from how you would normally put it together.

Once it is slide on the hub backwards, use #10-32 x 3/4" socket head cap screws to hold the assembly together. This should be the size screw the clutch is normally held together with. If the fit is tight, you might have to grind the heads of the screws down slightly to make it fit.

Once the assembly is bolted together, slide it back onto the grinder main shaft and tighten down with the nut. You will have to turn the adjuster knob on the main shaft (on the left side of the grinder) out to allow enough room for the clutch to slide onto the shaft.

This is the slider knob that moves the grinder cup in and out to align the grinder with the clutch. You can do large and small diameter clutches with this adjustment.

This is the main shaft adjuster knob. You use it to move the main shaft left to right and right to left. Once clutch is mounted on main shaft, turn this to move the clutch towards the grinder cup until it just touches and then back it up a 1/2 turn or so. Now turn the machine on and start rotating the main shaft in the direction of the arrow above. As you are rotating the main shaft, start slowing turning the main shaft adjustment knob to bring the clutch towards the grinder cup slowly until it starts making contact with the cup. Now from here you can use the adjustment knob to keep moving the clutch toward the cup to set your cut depth. You want to make light cuts to keep the heat minimal during the grinding.
